A reservoir built for power, not for flood control
Lake Wylie exists because the Catawba Power Company dammed the river at India Hook in 1904, and Southern Power enlarged the reservoir from 668 to 13,400 acres in 1924-25 before it passed to Duke Power in the 1927 merger and was renamed for co-founder W. Gil Wylie in October 1960. The dam was built to generate power, and lake-level management is a separate question from how well a specific shoreline lot drains storm water.
